Las Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world, with behemoth themed casinos and countless options for nightlife. The Strip hosts plenty of world-class dining and shopping options.
There are so many sights to see along the Las Vegas Strip, some of which are lesser-known. It's highly recommended to walk through many of the magnificent casinos located along the Strip as most of these themed mega-structures are very impressive.
At the very southern end of the Strip is the iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign, a popular photo stop. Nearby is Mandalay Bay which features a lazy river, wave pool, and the impressive Shark Reef Aquarium.
Just north of Mandalay Bay is Luxor Casino with its iconic black glass pyramid and sphinx. North of Luxor is the massive Excalibur Casino featuring an incredible castle based off of King Arthur's fantastical Camelot.
Continuing up the Strip is the New York New York Casino with its incredible New York skyline look and an amazing massive roller coaster that encircles the hotel inside and out. This casino also houses Hershey's Chocolate World.
Across the street from New York New York adjacent to the MGM Grand are two more giant brand stores. These popular stores include M&M's World, which carries every color of M&M, as well as the Coca-Cola Store, where you can sample exotic sodas from around the world.
Next along the Las Vegas Strip is the futuristic ultra-contemporary City Center complex, featuring multiple casinos and the extremely aesthetic Shops at Crystals mall. Adjacent is the Cosmopolitan Casino, which hosts the gorgeous Chandelier Bar, centered around an opulent three-storied crystal chandelier.
Adjacent to City Center are the stunning Fountains of Bellagio, which puts on incredible fountain/light shows synced to music about every 15 minutes. Within the Bellagio be sure to see the intricate colorful ceiling within the lobby, as well as the stunning indoor Botanical Gardens.
Across from the Bellagio you can walk through the themed Miracle Mile Shops mall of Planet Hollywood which is designed to look like you're walking outside with painted skies and lavish building exteriors.
Next door to the Miracle Mile Shops you'll find similar interiors at the Paris Casino, which recreates the experience of walking through a Parisian neighborhood. Paris Casino also features a massive 460 foot (140 m) half-sized Eiffel Tower with an observation deck over the Strip at the top.
Continuing north you might stop to view the outdoor flamingo exhibit at the Flamingo Casino. Nearby you walk along the Linq Promenade, which features great shops and restaurants. At the end of the promenade is one of the world's tallest Ferris wheels, the High Roller. This Ferris wheel is approximately 550 feet (170 m) tall and its cabins feature bars so you can order drinks while enjoying the amazing views.
Across the street from the Linq Promenade you can walk through the incredibly glamorous Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, which majestically recreates the ancient Roman Forum with decadent details like massive fountains and Roman statues.
Nearby Caesar's Palace you can explore the vast Venetian Casino, which elegantly recreates the canals of Venice (even offering gondola rides), although in a much more extravagant form. Outside you can walk along the behemoth Venice inspired structures including loggia-style buildings, brilliant white bridges, and St. Mark's Campanile tower.
Also in this area you can witness the massive exploding volcano of the Mirage Casino, as well as the boardwalk Pirate Bay featuring two life-sized floating pirate ships and free pirate shows at Treasure Island Casino. North of here is the Wynn Casino, which features a gigantic artificial waterfall that lights up and changes colors at night.
Continuing up the Strip is the Circus Circus Casino, which hosts the popular Adventuredome Theme Park featuring many indoor rides and attractions.
At the very northern end of the Strip is the 1,150 foot (350 m) tall Stratosphere Casino, which features a very unique and intimidating theme park atop the tower. Here you can take in views or drink and dine with the best panoramic views in Las Vegas.
You can also ride a mini roller coaster that appears to accelerate out over the edge (very frightening), a free-fall ride that takes you to the very top of the tower before dropping, and a ride that spins you out directly above the ground far below you, only attached to the building by crane. There's even the option of bungee jumping from the top of the tower.
Most of the attractions and nightlife are centered around the Strip, but the Fremont Street Experience is worth a visit as well, featuring zip-lines spanning above Downtown Las Vegas. The entire street is covered with the largest video screen in the world, which covers the entirety of the ceiling, displaying extremely vibrant and high quality visual shows with intricate and unique graphics. The shows happen every hour in the evenining and are synced with music.
Along Fremont Street you'll find many of the city's older casino along with many bars, shopping, and nightlife opportunities, and also live music.
Just south of Las Vegas is the unique Seven Magic Mountains, which consists of seven giant brightly colored rock pillars that's very photogenic and definitely worth your time.
Other popular attractions include the incredible Neon Museum showcasing many of Vegas's former neon signs displayed very impressively that you can see by guided tour. Just east of the Central Strip is the National Atomic Testing Museum, a branch of the Smithsonian Museum which displays fascinating exhibits on nuclear weaponry.
Also noteworthy in Las Vegas is the popular Pawn Stars Gold & Silver Shop, from the famous Pawn Stars TV show. This attractions typically has a long line to enter but is highly recommended for fans of the show. The city is also known for its massive outlet malls, which you'll find to the north and south of the Strip.
On the eastern edge of the city is Lake Las Vegas, where you'll find a beautiful lakefront promenade with shops, restaurants, casinos, and great views over the lake.
Just outside of Las Vegas to the east is the famous Hoover Dam with excellent views over Lake Mead and the Colorado River. The Dam itself is also massive and very impressive, with the option of taking a tour inside the dam to learn about and see the inner-workings of the structure.
Some hidden gems just outside the city include Red Rock Canyon to the west which features some excellent hiking opportunities.
The most popular trail at Red Rock Canyon is the 2.2 mile (3.5 km) round-trip Calico Tanks Trail featuring beautiful rugged red rock formations and views overlooking Las Vegas. Nearby be sure to take in the stunning views of the surrounding landscape at the Red Rock Canyon Overlook.
Other popular trails include the 3.6 mile (5.8 km) round-trip First Creek Trail with majestic red canyon views that follows a creek with little seasonal waterfalls and gorgeous scenery. Also popular is the 5 mile (8 km) round-trip Pine Creek Canyon Trail which has similar scenery following a creek that continues further into its beautiful canyon.
Las Vegas is home to some of the top nightclubs in the world, with many of the most famous DJs playing every weekend.
During Las Vegas's warmer season, which typically runs from about March-October, you'll find many incredible daytime parties that also feature world-class DJs at various dayclubs along the Strip.
