White Sands National Park
White Sands National Park is a beautiful place to wander around scenic rare white sand dunes. Popular shorter trails here include the Playa Trail (0.5 miles / 0.8 km round-trip) and the Dune Life Nature Trail (1 mile / 1.6 km round-trip).
The most highly recommended trail in White Sands National Park is the 4.9 mile (7.9 km) Alkali Flat Trail where you can truly feel lost exploring amongst the great seas of white sand. If you don't wish to hike the entire trail, you should strongly consider hiking at least part of it.
Museums
There's also some amazing museums just outside of White Sands National Park, including the New Mexico Museum of Space History detailing the history of the US space program. Another intriguing museum is the White Sands Missile Range Museum, which hosts many historic rockets and missiles on display.
