Attractions Guide

Introduction

The following attractions are listed in order along a recommended route through scenic parts or Northeast Utah, including Dinosaur National Monument, the Flaming Gorge, and Moonshine Arch. This is one option to see a few interesting attractions within an extremely remote part of the USA along the drive towards Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks from Utah.

Alternatively, you can visit these attractions in reverse order if driving south to Utah from Yellowstone and Grand Teton along an alternative route to Highway 15.

Dinosaur National Monument

Dinosaur National Monument is an area where many dinosaur bones have been excavated. Within the national monument you'll definitely want to see the Dinosaur Quarry Visitor Center and the nearby Quarry Exhibit Hall, where you can see and learn about many dinosaur fossils.

Moonshine Arch

After enjoying the park, you should consider stopping for a highly rewarding hike to see the incredible Moonshine Arch. You can reach this striking arch via a 1.4 mile (2.3 km) round-trip trail.

Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area

Now head north towards the stunning Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area which sits right over the border of Northern Utah. Driving along the western and southern side of the Green River you can stop along at several gorgeous viewpoints overlooking this breathtaking canyon gorge carved out by the river.

First you'll encounter the Canyon Rim Overlook, followed by the Red Canyon Visitor Center. Continue along to the Dowd Mountain Overlook and finally the Sheep Creek Overlook. All of these viewpoints offer amazing views overlooking different parts of the gorge.
